KILBOURNE TEINE

Every now and again you meet that special hound, The first for me was of course Alice who was literally the first hound I owned. The second 'special' after missing a few lovely hounds was Ch Kilbourne Ruby and she took us to great hights winning BOB at Crufts at the age of 8 years but it wasn't just the showing it was someting I cannot explain. .Ch Kilbourne Darling would be Micks choice and in the males it would be MacCallan , Quantum and Ch Kilbourne Shamus but every now and again one comes along that chooses you and this is Teine. (pronounced Chaynee)

Teine was one of a litter of 10 and from 1 weeks old she was the chosen one.She numerous 1sts and 4 Reserve CC's before the age of 2 years and we hoped she would fulfill the promise shown. We wanted to take a litter from her early on , we thought it would mature her and so we mated her twice, first time she missed , the second time she was very difficult judge the timing as she stood for males from day one through to day 21 and more - but we did get her mated several times over a few days to Sue Phillips Gunner but after a scan we thought she had missed.

A 7 weeks I was beginning to think I had got it wrong so we xrayed her and there was one puppy. This pup did not survive the C section and shortly after this she started loosing her coat. When I say loosing her coat , this is rather a understatement . She started with flank patches and gradually they got bigger and bigger until she resembled a chinese hairless.

No amount of treatment made any difference. Vet suggested a thyroid check and she had a low reading so she was prescribed thyroxin.Teine looked so unloved and we topically treated it with everything we could think of. Tried her on many different foods but all through this Teine was a happy dog and showed no sign of illness

These photoes were taken in February 2012 The patch on the left was the start but gradually it crept up almost to the neck.

The thyroxin changed nothing so after 2 months we took her off it and again I say she was a well, bouncy and a happy girl. Her coat looked so dreary and sad and of course we dare not take her anywhere in case someone thought we were not looking after her. The vet was at a loss, except maybe a spay would be appropriate as hormones were often mentioned.

We chemically had her spayed to see if that worked but it made no difference so eventually, sadly we bit the bullet and had her neutered. We will never know what she would have produced but the

GOOD NEWS IS WE WON - HER COAT IS COMING BACK AND WE WILL BE SHOWING HER AS SOON AS THE KC SAYS WE CAN

We brought her out to play today and gave her a little spin and she has remembered all and is looking forward to going to the shows again.
